Hi Folks! At the moment I`m in the process of simultanously building and painting up an entire army for 9th Age Kingdoms of Aquitaine (former Bretonia) and Warhammer 40k Dark Eldar. Both are one of my favourites and it took me a long time to find a fitting color scheme. Albeit to get a break […]
The Bloodwrack Shrine should have been done three months ago already. Well in the end I had to proxy it at the tournament but it wasn`t much of a problem anyway taking the Cauldron in its stead, the two models being so similar anyway. I tried to keep the painting scheme very different to the one from the cauldron to have atleast some sort of variance. Painting the Shrine took longer than I expected but especially the Medusa herself and the Mirror behind her were quite fun 🙂
After quite a long time of absence (hell real life needs some dedication aswell doesn`t it ;)) I thought I pop in and post not just one but two of my latest painting projects in one fell swoop. You can see my Kharibdyss further below but this bit features my new Dreadlord on Manticore. As I am a huge fan of the Raging Heroes one (and erm less of a fan of the one from GW) I had to get and paint it.
For the color palette I thought using mostly earthen tones and brownish yellows like you see on mountain lions because that Manticore just screams “viscious Mountain Lion” to me. The wings I used my Airbrush for but everything else is hand painted. As much as I like the Manticore itself the less I like the original rider. The head and especially sword just don`t do it for me. Thats why I replaced both with bitz from my collection (both head and sword are from the new DE chariot kit, the shield is from the CoK kit). I hope you like it and with that I wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR! 😀
Well my Kharibdyss is still not fully done yet, but what the heck I have to post the pictures at some point (I can`t wait for months on end ;)). Sadly the water effect hasn`t properly dried yet because I guess I put too much of it on the base at once. Still the rest of the model is done and that little water effect still missing won`t make that much of a difference anyway ;).
For “amusement sake” I put a floating HE body in the water infront of the Kharidbyss. I guess he must have tried to beat her in a swimming contest and failed. Those crazy High Elves 😉
My third and final Hydra is done. Shes the Female, the Boss, the Big Mama 😉
I wanted her to stand out far more than just with a different paint job (I tried to do a mix of oceanic and emerald green) thats why I had to convert her quite a bit. I “broke” and reshaped nearly all of her legs to get her into an upward motion, climbing over a rock while the handlers drive her on. Because of the different posture the whole corpus had now I had to angle all the heads aswell so she would be looking in the right direction (and not directly into the ground). The posture I gave her makes her appear far larger than the other “normal” Hydras.
To put even more character into the monster I have her munching on a poor little High Elf. I assure you hes not feeling anything anymore, his whole lower body is gone already. But still, the two Heads are fighting over the scraps and pulling on their preys arms from each side. 😀
Back again with another update. This time I thought I do another Dark Rider unit but I didn`t just wanna paint another five of those buggers so I thought I put a Unit Filler in to show a bit more action. I used some green stuff to build the wall and the little tree and put some puddles of rainwater on the ground aswell.
I thought if the Dark Rider is already jumping over a wall like nothing, why not have him shoot with two Repeaters simultanously John Woo stye? I cut the left hand off of a Corsair (who normally use handbows) and put a Repeater in his hands. Hope you like it
Already more than 1.5 years ago I finished my Shade project building a big movement tray/diorama for them. All of the parts (trees, rock etc) are magnetized for easy remove and/or replacement with other shade models. For their prisoner I used the Empire-Fast-Food-Bit from the Ogre Thundertusk box 😉
