Painting Competition on Druchii.net

As the title says I am gonna participate in a painting competition which is hosted on Druchii.net and supported by AoW. I had to think a bit about which model I wanted to do for the competition and decided in the end that am gonna do my alter ego (Severian), a Dark Elf Dreadlord on a Pegasus.

I thought I give him a few special things to make him stand out a bit more. Foremost there is his double bladed executioner sword which is the only one of its kind. I thought about giving him a helmet but then decided against it because I think if he shows his face (his helmet will be fastened at the side of the saddle), it gives the model more character. The picture shows the components am gonna use. Lets see how he will turn out 😉

Hobby Update 11.06.2014

Am back from my vacation and itching to get back to painting. Coming up will be my FW Troll Hag which is about 35% done already because I started painting her before I went away.

So whats next after her? Due to my participation in a Team Tournament early September I will be painting some Dwarfen stuff soonish but will of course also have time for some more Dark Elf models (Kharibdyss, second Peg Master, two Medusae and a bunch of new Exectioners). There are also plans to finish my big unit of FW Nurgle Bile Trolls (Throggs leading them). I already painted three of them some time ago so there is “only” 6 more to wrap it up. On top of it I already have a project on my desk which involves painting up the Terror of Fortriu which proxies as a WoC Chimera. Jeez I wish I had more time 😉

“Something smells fishy in here…”

I took the liberty to paint some other models from my, I gotta admit, massive collection. This time I chose a unit of Orcs & Goblins River Trolls. Beside being an absolut blast to paint it felt good getting some different things done apart from my beloved Dark Elves. There is still a Unit filler in the works for these Trolls aswell as the famous FW Troll Hag. Stay tuned 🙂

Warlock – Youre favourite son in law.

My Dark Elf Warlocks are finally done. I included a little conversion in the back to show how one of Warlocks gets sucked into Slaanesh`s clutches 😉

It was a bit of a hassle trying to balance it on the horses tail but in the end it worked quite well. The horse is actually a spare from the new DE chariot kit. I cut of the Warlocks hands and replaced them with hands from my Crypt Ghouls Bitz box to have him trying to hold onto his steed to no avail.

“We`ve come to reap your souls”

I just finished four Dark Elf Reapers. On the pictures below you will find two of them. All of my warmachines sport small custom built dioramas. On one hand I think especially warmachines do look better if there is some sort of environment around them on the other other they are much better to transport. The first Reaper has a flag, using bits from the old DE Warrior set, the second has some spikes of a severed White Lion and Sister of Avelorn head, just to show who is boss. Sadly the blood running down the spikes is barely visible on the pictures but I can assure you it looks suitable gruesome ;).

Finally done, here is my Dark Elf Master on Pegasus. He can be used as the Army BSB but also as a normal Master. I took the Pegasus from Gamzone Miniatures (the one from GW is just atrocious I think) and put a Knight on its back instead of the Sorceress using bits from the Cold One Knight Kit. The cloak is from the DE Dark Rider box, filed down to fit on his back.

“Baby, you got something in your teeth” Part Deux

Part two of my ongoing three-part-hydra-painting-project 🙂

I tried to duplicate the paint scheme from the first Hydra but I think due to GW changing their color palette the colors don`t quite match. Thats not so bad however as no being should be completely the same anyway.

The Hydra shown is one of the two males, the third one will be the alpha female and will get a different paint job. I also want to heavily modify her whole composure to set her apart from the two males. It will take some time till I can get to it, so for now enjoy the second male one 🙂
